The government of the United States and Canada recognise that fossil shell flour is safe to use in animal feed. Fossil shell flour prevents clumping of feed particles by keeping them separate, so there is improved flowability, mixability and handling of the animal feed. This in turn creates two big advantages to the animals who consume fossil shell flour in their feed ration. First, acting as an anti-caking agent to prevent clumping of feed particules, the surface area of feed exposed to the digestive processes – both bacterial and enzymatic – is increased and therefore more feed is actually digested and utilised. Secondly, fossil shell flour contains a small amount of 14 trace minerals. Thousands of animal owners and livestock breeders have discovered that adding fossil shell flour to their animals’ rations has produced a number of benefits
- a natural wormer
- eliminates parasites
-increased protein digestion
-increased herd production

Diatomaceous Earth- Pest Control
Reported to kill – slugs, ants, termites, snails, fleas, fly maggots, aphids, bed bugs, mites, ticks, roaches, earwigs, scorpions, cutworms, ear worms, lawn grubs, grass hoppers. But apparently not harmful to earthworms. It does not kill due a chemical action but rather by the structure of its sharp microscopic edges.
Another use for Diatomaceous Earth is the control of internal parasite such as round worms, tape worms, cecal worms and flukes. DE will not control heartworms. It is considered safe for the digestive system and many people even use it as a dietary supplement because of other minerals it contains such as iron.
When first starting the animals on the treatment it is recommended that you treat for 60 days to completely kill the parasites and prevent reinfestation.
You can also add to the chickens dust bath to kill off mites and fleas.
PLEASE NOTE do not use in areas where beneficial insects are as it is also harmful to bees and other pollinators.
